Hunger, No Games!

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. — Matthew 5:6 CSB

That’s the scripture that stood out to me this morning during my conversation with God. Yup! We were back on the conversation of righteousness!

I read the other scriptures around that one, but it was verse six that was highlighted to me this morning.

When I peered down at the study notes, it said that to hunger for righteousness is to apply the righteous standard of God to my life.

Holy Spirit said: When you’re hungry, food is all you think about. What you’re going to eat? Where you’re going to get it from. It consumes all your thoughts. Change that hunger for food to a hunger for THAT which pleases Me. Let Me consume your thoughts. Eat My Word from the Bible. Your appetite is evidence of what you’re hungry for.

Yall as I was writing this down, I thought about how major food is to us. Of course Holy Spirit was only speaking truth! Sometimes I actually get upset or annoyed when people simply talk about food, even my kids. LOL! I be like, is that all you can focus on right now? What we’re eating? You just ate!

For real yall! I be low-key getting straight annoyed. My mind instantly goes to fasting. I tell my kids and my Dad who is also a food focuser (is focuser a word?) to stop focusing so much on food and your next meal. Food ain’t nothing but fuel. It’s not something we need to just be always consumed with. But you see what Holy Spirit said huh! Food be consuming our thoughts. Mine too! I am not going to act like it’s just my kids and my Dad (even though they are definitely the main ones). LOL! Hey Daddy if you’re listening! LOL!

The Bible says in Matthew 4:4:

Jesus answered, “It is written, ‘Man must not live only on bread. He must also live on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ” (written in Deuteronomy 8:3) — Matthew 4:4 NIRV

So today Holy Spirit is helping us to see that blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, not food!

I got to tell yall this quick story. So you know I don’t eat meat right? Well now you know if you didn’t know. And this is not something I kept going. I asked the Lord a while ago could I go back to eating meat and He sent to me the book of Daniel, so that answered that. Anyway, last week, a very popular vegan truck from Atlanta popped into town on tour and I decided I would go and try them out. I had been wanting to try them. Buuuut when I tried to try them in Atlanta back in 2019, my aunt who lives righteously said we are not standing in that long line. I actually was a bit annoyed at her because I wanted to try the food. I didn’t care about the name. And that’s the thing! This vegan food place’s brand is totally inappropriate and not godly. It is very sexual in its name and it’s menu is also on brand with sexual promiscuity. Buuuuuut I was said to myself, I am going to pray for them when I go and try one of their sandwiches. (Yall are judging me. I can feel it through the screen). LOL!

I go and the line is beyond meat kinda long (get it? Beyond Meat). Okay anyway, as I park my truck and I am walking to just see the line, I hear Holy Spirit say…uhn uhn, nope. I was thinking it was because it was just too hot to be standing out there. But as I thought more about it, He was saying no, do not patron this business. They are not representing Me or righteousness. See I had just decided I would pray for them while patroning them. But Holy Spirit made it to where I didn’t have a choice but to leave. I am so glad I did. God is a protector from dangers seen and unseen. And let me say this, had I gotten it, I already knew that I would not post on any social media that I had gotten it. Why? Their brand didn’t line up with my lifestyle. And how would I look indulging in their brand by buying their food, let alone posting it.

Dr. Evans said in the study notes of this verse: you can’t have a donut level spiritual diet and then wonder why you don’t experience God’s blessings. See donuts taste good, but they don’t have no nutritional value!

YIKES!!!

We must be hungry for the right food!

We must be thirsty for the right drink!

We must eat the Word of God and drink His water!

But anyone who drinks the water I give them will never be thirsty. In fact, the water I give them will become a spring of water in them. It will flow up into eternal life.” — John 4:14 NIRV

Instead of being a foodie, let’s be godly. Instead of being a foodie, let’s be a FASTie! The more we chew and eat God’s word, the more we can live a righteous lifestyle that is pleasing to God!

God blesses those people who want to obey him more than to eat or drink. They will be given what they want! — Matthew 5:6 CEV
