Not What I Want, But…

In my prayer time conversation this morning, I heard three things from Holy Spirit. At first I was still in prayer posture, which my face to the floor, but then I realized that if I had to move to write it down before I forgot.

Holy Spirit said:

  1. Hands off

  2. Hands up

  3. Maturity

As I listened even more for Him to reveal what those three phrases meant, He kept the convo going in His Word.

Jesus walked on a little way. Then he knelt with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, don’t make me suffer by having me drink from this cup. But do what you want, and not what I want.” — Matthew 26:39 CEV

And going a little farther, He threw Himself upon the ground on His face and prayed saying, My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will [not what I desire], but as You will and desire. — Matthew 26:39 AMPC

He went forward a little, and fell face downward on the ground, and prayed, “My Father! If it is possible, let this cup be taken away from me. But I want your will, not mine.” — Matthew 26:39 TLB

Then he walked a short distance away, and overcome with grief, he threw himself facedown on the ground and prayed, “My Father, if there is any way you can deliver me from this suffering, please take it from me. Yet what I want is not important, for I only desire to fulfill your plan for me.” Then an angel from heaven appeared to strengthen him. — Matthew 26:39 TPT

Holy Spirit then said to me: Everything you endure and encounter is all so that My Plan will be carried out. Stay in a posture of hands up (praise) and hands off (surrender). I am maturing you to focus on what I want, more than what you want. Trust My wants. I’ll always want what is best for you. Be married to My Will, not yours.

I thanked Holy Spirit for this conversation. I specifically tapped into the Passion Translation of Matthew 26:39 where it says: THEN an angel from heaven appeared to strengthen him. I know that if an angel appeared to strengthen Jesus as He surrendered to the will of His Father, I too will be strengthen as I surrender to the will of My Father God.

Today, I encourage you as I encourage myself: Not my will (not your will), but God’s will be done in our lives. I praise the Lord for His will being done in my life. I trust God’s will for my life, and I pray you are encouraged to do the same.

P.S. I just love my Conversations With God! Don’t you?

SALVATION PRAYER

If you don’t know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior and you’re not a believer, but you have a desire to be, all you have to do is openly confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead (Romans 10:9). When you pray that prayer, you are saved. Get connected with a good, bible-based church in your community, stay connected to other believers, and start having daily conversations through prayer with God every single day. Welcome to your new life with Jesus Christ!!!
