Obey God's Word...Then You Will Be Heard

When you ask the Lord for wisdom, you best believe that He will give it to you!

I flipped straight to Proverbs again this morning. But why am I shocked? I mean, I did pray for wisdom, so it is totally wise for me to land in Proverbs, right? Right!

The Holy Spirit also spoke wisdom to me when He said:

  • Don’t be deceived.

  • Stay vigilant.

  • Keep your eyes on Me.

  • Keep My Word. Speak it!

As I read through Proverbs, my Tony Evans Study Bible already had some verses highlighted, and of course those stuck out to me, specifically this one about prayer.

Anyone who turns his ear away from hearing the law— even his prayer is detestable. Proverbs 28:9 CSB

When I read that first, I wrote in my journal: You can’t be disobedient to the God you’re praying to. I looked up another translation and it said that this disobedient person’s prayer is repulsive to God. WOW! That means it’s disgusting, abhorrent. May I add my own synonym: Ewww! The Contemporary English Version says the verse this way: God cannot stand the prayers of anyone who disobeys his Law. The Passion Translation says: If you close your heart and refuse to listen to God’s instruction, even your prayer will be despised.

Bottom line: All our prayers ain’t being received by God!

Let that sink in for a moment. That’s what I had to do this morning. I thought about how people post on social media that they are praying for folks. Or folks on social media are soliciting prayers from people and they reply using prayer hand emojis and God is like…really? You don’t even talk to me, so what makes you think I am about to listen to you. You don’t even obey me, so what makes you think, I am going to do what you’re asking me to do. And a lot of prayers don’t just go unanswered, they go unheard! YIKES!

That may be a hard pill to swallow for some, but let me give you some living water right quick to swallow that pill: Obey God’s Word. Then you will be heard! Hashtag bars! Let me say it another way: The reason why your prayers haven’t been answered is because God didn’t hear you. Your disobedience made God too nauseous to hear you.

But if we would be obedient to God’s Laws, then we will be heard. So let’s start with repenting for our disobedience.

Another verse that caught my attention was Proverbs 29:18. It says: Without revelation, people run wild, but one who follows divine instruction will be happy.

And people is out here wildin out, you hear me! So if you wilding out, you ain’t really happy are you? You wild out here in these streets acting happy, but if you’re not following divine instruction, you ain’t happy!

Here are a few different translations of that verse:

Without guidance from God, law and order disappear, but God blesses everyone who obeys his Law. Proverbs 29:18 CEV

Only God can be the leader of a country. Without him, people do what they want to do. Happy are those people who obey God’s rules. Proverbs 29:18 EASY

When there is no clear prophetic vision, people quickly wander astray. But when you follow the revelation of the word, heaven’s bliss fills your soul. Proverbs 29:18 TPT

Being wise is being obedient to God’s Word, regardless of anything you want. Plus if you’re not being obedient, your whole saying of prayers up, is making God proverbially throw up. You see what I did there? Because it’s in Proverbs. Don’t worry if you didn’t get it. Sometimes my creativity don’t reach the masses. LOL!

Just get this though: OBEY GOD’S LAWS IF YOU WANT YOUR PRAYERS HEARD.

GOT IT?

SALVATION PRAYER

If you don’t know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior and you’re not a believer, but you have a desire to be, all you have to do is openly confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead (Romans 10:9). When you pray that prayer, you are saved. Get connected with a good, bible-based church in your community, stay connected to other believers, and start having daily conversations through prayer with God every single day. Welcome to your new life with Jesus Christ!!!
