Slow Down

Sometimes we get so busy with everything going on in life, we come to the Lord with a rushed mindset. Check out what Holy Spirit said to me this morning as I started my day off with Him in prayer.

Holy Spirit: Slow down and focus. Don’t be in a such a rush. Abide. Just Abide.

Scriptures that spoke to me this morning.

Therefore, holy brothers, partners in a heavenly calling, keep your focus on Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession. — Hebrews 3:1 ISV

“And so, dear brothers and sisters, you are now made holy, and each of you is invited to the feast of your heavenly calling. So fasten your thoughts fully onto Jesus, whom we embrace as our Apostle and King-Priest.” — ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭3:1‬‬ TPT

Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. Colossians 3:2

“The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.” — ‭‭1 John‬ ‭2:17‬‬

“Quiet down before God, be prayerful before him. Don’t bother with those who climb the ladder, who elbow their way to the top.”— ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭37:7‬‬ MSG

‘‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.” — ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭15:8‬‬ NLT

I’m definitely one who takes a minute to settle my mind down. Yes…even in the morning when I first wake up. There are so many things contending for my attention (in my mind), but I hear you Lord. I am to slow down and focus on you even more than I am doing right now.

When I was reading those scriptures, the last one really got me. That scripture is in red letters, so that means it’s Jesus talking. He said, ‘‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.”

I don’t want Jesus to say that about me. I don’t want to pray amiss. I don’t want to just be moving my lips in prayer, but my mind all the way over there somewhere. When I read hearts in this verse, I thought about my mind, not the physical beating heart.

The CEV and EASY translations of Matthew 15:8 says:

All of you praise me with your words, but you never really think about me. — Matthew 15:8 CEV

God says, “These people say good things about me, but they do not really want to obey me.” — Matthew 15:8 EASY

Let us be encouraged today to obey. Holy Spirit said to slow down and focus and I know that means focus/fix our hearts and minds on Him.

SALVATION PRAYER

If you don’t know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior and you’re not a believer, but you have a desire to be, all you have to do is openly confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead (Romans 10:9). When you pray that prayer, you are saved. Get connected with a good, bible-based church in your community, stay connected to other believers, and start having daily conversations through prayer with God every single day. Welcome to your new life with Jesus Christ!!!
