The Feast of Trumpets Explained: Scriptures, Prophecy, and My Journey of Obedience
🎺 My First Time Observing the Memorial Blowing of Trumpets
When I first started keeping the weekly Sabbath, I had no idea it would open the door for me to want to honor all of YAHAWAH’s (GOD’S) appointed times. Week by week, that day of rest showed me the beauty of stepping out of my own rhythm and stepping into His. And before I knew it, the Spirit was tugging at my heart: “If you love Me, keep My commandments.”
That’s how I found myself preparing to observe the Memorial of Blowing of Trumpets (Yom Teruah) for the very first time. And oh, what a joy it has been to learn and experience this holy day that YAHAWAH Himself commanded!
What the Scriptures Say
The command is crystal clear in the Torah:
Leviticus 23:23–25
“Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation. Ye shall do no servile work therein: but ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord.”Numbers 29:1–2
“And in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work: it is a day of blowing the trumpets unto you. And ye shall offer a burnt offering for a sweet savour unto the Lord...”
We also see glimpses of this feast throughout the writings:
Nehemiah 8:1–12 → Ezra read the Law to the returned exiles on the first day of the seventh month, and the people wept, rejoiced, and feasted together.
Psalms 81:3–4 → “Blow up the trumpet in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn feast day. For this was a statute for Israel, and a law of the God of Jacob.”
And it doesn’t stop there—the New Testament and Apocrypha point us back to the sound of the trumpet:
1 Corinthians 15:52 – “In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump...”
1 Thessalonians 4:16 – “The Lord himself shall descend... with the trump of God.”
Revelation 8–11 – The seven trumpets of judgment and victory.
Sirach 50:16 – “Then sounded the trumpets… to make a great sound.”
2 Esdras 6:23 – “And the trumpet shall give a sound, which when every man heareth, they shall be suddenly afraid.”
From the Torah to Revelation to the Apocrypha, trumpets are a thread of warning, worship, and victory.
My Personal Journey of Obedience
At first, I didn’t fully understand why YAHAWAH gave these set-apart days. But the more I obeyed, the more my understanding grew. It’s like He opened my eyes to see Scripture in fresh ways I had never noticed before.
Observing the Feast of Trumpets/Memorial Blowing of Trumpets wasn’t just about blowing a shofar (because I don’t have one; although I did shout HalleluYAH and took my phone outside and turned the volume all the way up on a YouTube channel of a person playing their shofar)—it was also about realigning my life with YAHAWAH’s calendar, not man’s. It was about pausing work, gathering in a holy convocation (I did this with other believers online), and lifting up my voice in praise. It was about remembering that He is King and that the final trumpet is coming.
Obedience has truly been my teacher. The more I walk in His ways, the deeper my love grows, and the deeper my love grows, the more I want to walk in His ways. What a cycle of joy!
🎺 Why We Celebrate
So why do we celebrate the Memorial of Blowing of Trumpets?
Because YAHAWAH commanded it.
Because it reminds us to wake up and prepare our hearts before the Day of Atonement (Leviticus 23:27).
Because it points us prophetically to the return of YAHAWASHI (Christ) at the sound of the last trump.
Because aligning with His Word brings life, joy, and blessing.
Final Thoughts
I used to hear people say that “these feasts were done away with,” but I’ve found the opposite to be true. They are alive, full of meaning, and still calling us to remember, repent, and rejoice.
What a joy it is to be in alignment with YAHAWAH’s commandments—not out of burden, but because I love Him so!
