Looking at the "Who" When We Don't Understand the "Why"

God is doing a new thing. Can you see it?

My answer: Yes I can!

Isaiah 43:19 says:

Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.

Before God asked us if we can see it, He said this in verse 18: “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old.

Last year I had a declaration on my wall where I said: I decree and declare that my new things are springing forth. On that black chalk paper, I had written several things down that at the beginning of 2019, I was able to check off. Those white chalk check marks represented the things that had sprung forth completely in 2019. But when I looked back at the picture that I took of the wall (because I took it down at the beginning of this year), I noticed that some things that I declared would spring forth in 2019 actually sprung forth THIS YEAR in 2020. The revelation God gave me is that His timing of springing forth is better than my timing. And just because some things happened quickly, not all things that I decreed and declared would spring forth in that current 2019 season. They would spring forth in 2020!

This morning the Holy Spirit was yet reminding me that HE IS STILL DOING NEW THINGS that I have never SEEN! Can I see it? That verse above says he is making a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.

Yesterday I heard Pastor Tim Ross of Embassy City Church preach a message on Master Reset. And he said something that added to a constant theme that I have been hearing for the last week regarding God doing a new thing (I even saw this theme play out on Netflix while watching the last episode in season 5 of Greenleaf). Pastor Tim said: God makes a way and when He does, He uses things that were already there to make it. But God also CREATES A WAY. That means if it’s not already there, He can make it from scratch!! Now that ought to make you shout right there nah!

When God does a new thing, it can be either Him MAKING A WAY or CREATING A WAY. But either way, I have faith and believe that if He said it, He will DO IT no matter what WAY He chooses, because HE IS THE WAY!

A lot of people are talking about our new normal with masks, virtual learning, sanitizer, no Clorox wipes on the shelves, small group gatherings, and even Zoom Thanksgivings, etc. I had a thought this morning as I was journaling: We must make sure that our new normal is the new thing God is doing, and not the new thing that the world or culture is doing!

For the next three days, we are studying the book of Habakkuk for the Scriptural Bible Study. A few things I learned from reading the introduction in my Tony Evans Study Bible that I think will help us know more about this book of the Bible, other than the verse we are ALL so familiar with: Write the Vision and make it plain. Yall know if we don’t know nothing else about Habakkuk, we know that. But did you know this:

  • Habakkuk was a perplexed prophet.

  • Most prophets spoke to people on behalf of God, but Habakkuk spoke to God on behalf of the people.

  • Hab (can I call him Hab for short y’all? No. Okay). Habakkuk struggled because God used the evil Babylonians to judge His people and Hab wrestled with whether God was fair for doing so.

  • The book of Habakkuk helps us to look at the “Who” when we don’t understand the “Why.”

  • The book of Habakkuk prompts us to trust God’s sovereignty over His Kingdom purposes, even when we don’t comprehend them.

  • The book of Habakkuk helps us draw nearer to God even when we don’t get all our questions answered, and even when it seems God is working against us.

  • Habakkuk teaches us that we can take our stand and praise God even when we don’t grasp what He is doing.

  • Sometimes God is asking us can we see it, but we can’t see it. And in those times, we have to trust God. We can’t forget that God alone can see the whole picture, and He is working out his sovereign plan.

  • God is omniscient (all knowing), omnipotent (all powerful), and holy (perfectly righteous in ALL he does).

We must always keep our eyes on Jesus, not our circumstances. We must always trust that God knows exactly what He is doing.

SALVATION PRAYER

If you don’t know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior and you’re not a believer, but you have a desire to be, all you have to do is openly confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead (Romans 10:9). When you pray that prayer, you are saved. Get connected with a good, bible-based church in your community, stay connected to other believers, and start having daily conversations through prayer with God every single day. Welcome to your new life with Jesus Christ!!!
