Conversations With God: 1 on 1

Tell them to let Me talk.

As I was praying super early this morning and then settling back into bed to get some more zzzz’s, I heard Holy Sprit say: Don’t just talk to Me. Listen to Me. Write what you hear Me say.

I was thinking that I pretty much do that. But I said, let me grab my phone and write this down. Maybe I need to step it up.

Then Holy Spirit said: Tell them to let Me talk. They are talking to Me but they aren’t waiting for me to respond. They are not listening for my voice. I have something to say about that. I have something to say about that thing they talked to Me about.

I jotted it down. Now of course I was thinking, was that it for today Lord?

I went searching for scripture because I felt so strongly that the Lord wants us to not only spend time with Him, make our prayer requests to Him, and talk to Him about everything. But He also wants us to listen to Him and not just hear Him, but write down what He is saying to us.

As a writer, writing comes very easy for me, but I realize that capturing what the Lord says is imperative for every one His children. We can’t let excuses be the reason why we don’t write down or document what we hear the Holy Spirit saying to us each day.

Here’s scripture to back this whole conversation up:

I will go up to the lookout tower.
I’ll station myself on the city wall.
I’ll wait to see how the Lord will reply to me.
Then I’ll try to figure out how his reply answers what I’ve complained about.

The Lord Replies to Habakkuk

The Lord replies,

“Write down the message I am giving you.
Write it clearly on the tablets you use.
Then a messenger can read it
and run to announce it. — Habakkuk 2:1-2 NIRV

The Lord's Answer to Habakkuk

I will climb my watchtower and wait to see what the Lord will tell me to say and what answer he will give to my complaint. The Lord gave me this answer: “Write down clearly on tablets what I reveal to you, so that it can be read at a glance. — Habakkuk 2:1-2 GNT

The Lord Answers Habakkuk Again

While standing guard
    on the watchtower,
I waited for the Lord’s answer,
before explaining the reason
    for my complaint.
Then the Lord told me:
“I will give you my message
in the form of a vision.
Write it clearly enough
to be read at a glance. — Habakkuk 2:1-2 CEV

Habakkuk Waits for God’s Response

I will stand at my guard post
and station myself on the lookout tower.
I will watch to see what he will say to me
and what I should reply about my complaint.

God’s Second Answer

The Lord answered me:

Write down this vision;
clearly inscribe it on tablets
so one may easily read it. — Habakkuk 2:1-2 CSB

Notice a few key words and instances in this scripture from all these different translations.

  • Habakkuk climbed up to the watch tower. That means he got away from the crowd to wait and see what the Lord would say.

  • He waited.

  • He had made a complaint to the Lord.

  • This was the second time the Lord answered Habakkuk. So that means He will answer you.

  • The Lord told Habakkuk to write it down.

So conversation with God 101 or 1 on 1 goes like this:

  • Get away and pray.

  • Wait and see what He say.

  • Listen to His reply.

  • Write it down clearly.

  • Read it.

Be encouraged my friends, Holy Spirit has something to say to you today and everyday that you pray.

SALVATION PRAYER

If you don’t know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior and you’re not a believer, but you have a desire to be, all you have to do is openly confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead (Romans 10:9). When you pray that prayer, you are saved. Get connected with a good, bible-based church in your community, stay connected to other believers, and start having daily conversations through prayer with God every single day. Welcome to your new life with Jesus Christ!!!
