Imitators

Now we desire each of you to demonstrate the same diligence for the full assurance of your hope until the end, so that you won't become lazy but will be imitators of those who inherit the promises through faith and perseverance. Hebrews 6:12 CSB

Today, let’s agree to be imitators. You’re probably asking, but who are we imitating? How about we imitate those who inherit the promises of God through faith and perseverance.

Yesterday I said grow up. Wipe the milk mouth and start chewing on the solid food which is the application of the Word of God in your life. Today, I encourage you to GO ON TO MATURITY! Yup! That’s how chapter 6 of Hebrews (our book for the Scriptural Bible Study) kicks off. And if I were to say it in my southern voice…Gone on nah! Get on to maturity!

Our usefulness to God increases as we grow in spiritual maturity during our journey from earth to glory. God didn’t just save us so that we can go to heaven when we die, he wants to use us here on earth and then rewards you with your kingdom inheritance when He returns.

The reason you want to get on with it is because you don’t want to become lazy or have your heart hardened. You don’t want to be rebellious, right? Because when you are a rebel and just want to stay on milk or be a babe in Christ, then that’s like mocking Christ. You are IMITATING those who crucified Jesus!

We don’t want to do that. We want to press on to maturity. We want to persevere in the faith and not give up.

And speaking of persevering in the faith, let’s talk about someone whom we can most certainly imitate, the father of our faith, Abraham! God made a promise to Abraham. He told him that he will indeed bless him and greatly multiply him, but there was quite a bit of time between the promise and the oath.

And so after waiting patiently, Abraham obtained the promise. Hebrews 6:15 CSB

Are you waiting on God to fulfill a promise in your life? I know I am. I know that I will be married and I give God the glory for it because it is already done in the spiritual realm. So what’s the hold up on my new last name in the earthly realm?

Well during this wait and many other waits we read about in the Bible, God is preparing the promise for us and He is also preparing us for the promise. Did you know that 25 years passed between God’s promise of a son to Abraham and the birth of Isaac. Of course we know that Abraham got a wee bit ahead of God and tried to do it his way and ended up with Ishmael. And how many of us can relate to that?

But the revelation I got this morning from studying Hebrews 6 is if I continue to wait patiently, I WILL GET THE PROMISE and it will be at the exact right time too!

God’s promise is His declaration of what He will do. God’s oath is his announcement that He is ready to do it.

I have faith and can be assured that if I imitate Abraham, not get lazy, and persevere in my faith, I WILL OBTAIN THE PROMISE.

SALVATION PRAYER

If you don’t know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior and you’re not a believer, but you have a desire to be, all you have to do is openly confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead (Romans 10:9). When you pray that prayer, you are saved. Get connected with a good, bible-based church in your community, stay connected to other believers, and start having daily conversations through prayer with God every single day. Welcome to your new life with Jesus Christ!!!
