In All Your Getting…

I woke up this morning before my alarm went off. As much as I tried to go back to sleep, I knew deep down, I was up and so I just…started the conversation with the Lord.

See that’s why you can’t go back to sleep no matter how hard you try. The Lord wants to talk to you (just like He does me) and instead of working so hard to get back to sleep, just start the conversation with the Lord.

In my conversation this morning, I did a lot of thanking the Lord. I also prayed in my heavenly language and afterwards, I just listened. When I didn’t hear anything right away, I opened my Bible. I read about being obedient to God’s greatest commands where we are to love the Lord God with all our heart, soul, and mind. And we are to love our neighbors as ourselves. Read it in Matthew 22:37-39.

Are we obeying those commands? I thought about how we parse out our love to things, people, organizations, sports teams, schools, secret societies (you know I am going to speak on that every time), but we do. We say we love God but when you love God, you obey God. And if we are obeying His commands, our love can’t be parsed out. We are to love the Lord God with ALL our heart, ALL our soul, and ALL our mind. Are you doing that? Am I doing that? We must do a daily self-check to ensure we are being obedient.

But back to my conversation with the Lord. I asked Him to speak to me and I discern Him saying: In all thy getting, get understanding. Make sure you understand My Way. The more you understand My Way, the more you can obey.

I immediately wrote it down and then searched for that scripture about in all thy getting. I wasn’t sure what scripture it was, but I knew it was scripture. It’s Proverbs!

The beginning of Wisdom is: get Wisdom (skillful and godly Wisdom)! [For skillful and godly Wisdom is the principal thing.] And with all you have gotten, get understanding (discernment, comprehension, and interpretation). — Proverbs 4:7 AMPC

I love how the Amplified Classic translation of that scripture broke down what understanding means in the context of this scripture. The Lord was saying, in all the things you are getting as you grow spiritually, make sure you are getting: discernment, comprehension, and interpretation. Some translations even said insight. But the bottomline is GET IT!

As I was reading about the greatest commandments in Matthew, I also read in the study notes of my Dr. Tony Evans Study Bible that love for God is consistently expressed when we obey His commands. We should align our decisions with God’s expectations.

That last line really made me think. Hmm. Do all my decisions align with God’s expectations? One thing I know is that God expects me to obey His commands. Do all of my daily decisions align with that? Do all of your decisions align with God’s expectations?

As we start this new day and get ready for work, school, or whatever the day holds, let’s make sure in all our getting, we get understanding so we can be obedient to the Lord’s commands.

P.S. I just love having THESE conversations with the Lord! Don’t you?

SALVATION PRAYER

If you don’t know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior and you’re not a believer, but you have a desire to be, all you have to do is openly confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead (Romans 10:9). When you pray that prayer, you are saved. Get connected with a good, bible-based church in your community, stay connected to other believers, and start having daily conversations through prayer with God every single day. Welcome to your new life with Jesus Christ!!!
