The Sound

I remember growing up here in Mississippi and attending football games with my entire family. We are Jacksonians, which means we are alumni and supporters of our dear old college home, Jackson State University! As a kid I would be excited every year for the Homecoming game because it was the game with all the fanfare and parades. I mean it was THEE best time ever!

At the parade, different bands from all over the United States would participate. When I got old enough to play an instrument, I got to be a part of the festivities with my school because every school in the city was a part of the JSU Homecoming Parade. But I remember before I became a band member, I was simply an admirer of bands. I remember being that little kid who would stick her neck out to see what band or group would come marching down the street next. Oh it was the best time!

Now where I am going with this? What does this have to do with what Holy Spirit said to me this morning? Just hold on…I’m getting there. LOL!

Every year at the Homecoming Parade, Jackson State’s band would bring up the rear. That means they were the last band and everyone was excited to see the showmanship of this world famous band. And yes, I was privileged to be a part of this same band in my college years.

At the end of the parade there would always be a gap between the previous group or band and the JSU band, which is called the SONIC BOOM of the South! We would all be waiting with anticipation to see them come marching through the streets of downtown Jackson, MS. It would be worth the wait too! But there would always be this long pause. Right when you thought you were tired of waiting, then you would hear this sound. It was the roaring sound of sirens from the motorcycle police. They would come to ensure everyone was backed all the way up because the Sonic Boom was coming and they were huge. Unlike every other band that had marched through the parade, they would be the biggest and the loudest. So we all had to prepare for their arrival by backing up! Lord help me. The Holy Spirit is dropping all kinds of gems in this story!

Once the motorcycle police did their part, there would be silence, then you would hear something. And people would say: You hear that? That’s them! They’re coming! The sound would get louder and louder and louder the closer they got to you! The closer they got, the more excited you got. Then you could not only hear the sound, you could see them in the distance. What excitement it was to wait, hear, and see!

Do you hear that sound? It’s the angels moving swiftly on your behalf because God has heard your cry as you have been in waiting.

The morning Holy Spirit guided me to Psalms when I opened my Bible. It was Psalms 27 and 28. These were the scriptures that He wanted me to see.

I am certain that I will see the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living. Psalm 27:12 CEB

Blessed be the Lord for he has heard the sound of my pleading. The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him and I am helped. Therefore my heart celebrates and I give thanks to Him with song. Psalm 28:6-7 CEB

The Lord has heard MY SOUND. He has heard the sound of my pleading. He has heard the sound of my praise. He has heard the sound. And just like when I was kid waiting in expectation for the best band in the land to come through the streets, I wait on the Lord with gladness. Just like I knew the band would always show up, regardless of the gap or the wait, I know my God will show up and help me in this life. Just like I celebrated the band’s arrival at the parade as a kid, my heart celebrates and I give thanks to God with song!

Do you hear the sound? I do and so does God!

Holy Spirit said to me:

  • This week will be different!

  • This month will be different!

  • Everything you cried about last month will bring you joy this month! Watch and See! (April showers (my tears) brings May flowers (my joy).

  • Impossible will not just be possible, it will be the proof of who I AM!

Y’all I got so excited this morning! Do you hear the sound of excitement in my voice? I can see the blessings coming. They are in view!

Last week I had some pretty tough days. I felt like I took some major losses in my business. One day last week, I felt like I was a step behind all day. I had woke up late, prayed longer, and it seemed like I had just gone through the day behind. I felt like I had missed out on some opportunities to be further along.

Holy Spirit said to me this morning: I would never let you miss anything due to you spending time with Me. You were in the right place at the right time. What I have for you IS STILL YOURS. Because you spend time with me, serve me, praise me, and are obedient to me, I WILL BLESS YOU!

Do you hear that?

Do you hear that sound?

That’s the sound of my blessings and your blessings coming, and the closer they get the bigger they are and the louder you will praise the Lord for their arrival because you trusted Him that they were certainly coming!

P.S. I just love my Conversations With God! Don’t you?

SALVATION PRAYER

If you don’t know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior and you’re not a believer, but you have a desire to be, all you have to do is openly confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead (Romans 10:9). When you pray that prayer, you are saved. Get connected with a good, bible-based church in your community, stay connected to other believers, and start having daily conversations through prayer with God every single day. Welcome to your new life with Jesus Christ!!!
