Address the Unaddressed Sins in Your Life!

What have you been choosing to let satisfy you lately?

Think about it for a moment. Once you have an answer locked into your mind, write it down. After you write it down, I want you to compare it to the answer key that I got from reading Psalms 17 this morning during my prayer time (today is February 17th so that’s why I read Psalms 17).

Are you ready for the answer? You got your answer to the question written down? I’ll give you a few more minutes.

Oh, you need me to repeat the question? Here you go…

What have you been choosing to let satisfy you lately?

Is it temporary pleasures? Is it sin? I mean let’s just be real if it is. Is it food? Is it entertainment? Is it gossip? Is it social media? Is it a show on your TV? Is it a person? Is it a place? Is it a thing? Is it an idea? I just gave yall the definition of a noun.

But what is it?

As I read Psalm 17 this morning, I learned quite a bit. First of all, unaddressed sin blocks God from answering our prayers. Yup! You may be praying your little heart out (or throwing a few prayer hands online), but that thing you have been avoiding, that sin you have normalized, and that sin that you have decided not to address in your life, is actually blocking God from answering your prayers.

You have been praying for more money but you ain’t addressed the sins in your life.

You have been praying for this or that, but that sin is still unaddressed.

You wondering how other people are blessed and you’re not.

Maybe it’s because they have addressed the sin in their life. Maybe it’s because they have repented for the sin in their life, which means they didn’t keep on sinning after they asked for forgiveness.

Could it be that the things that you have been choosing to satisfy you lately are keeping your prayers from being answered?

In Psalm 17, David chooses to find his ultimate satisfaction in the presence of God.

But I will see your face in righteousness; when I awake, I will be satisfied with your presence. Psalm 17:15 CSB

There is nothing on this earth more satisfying than being in the presence of the Lord. No money, no fame, no fortune, no person, no nothing!!! If you have never been in the presence of God, then that’s where you want to get to. And the first thing you want to do to usher in His presence in your life is acknowledge Him for WHO HE IS, then repent for your sins, then forgive those who have sinned against you.

See in the presence of God, there is freedom! You have been bound up in sin far too long. You have been praying and God is like…I can’t hear you because that sin is overpowering you! And all we need to do is repent!

The Holy Spirit told me this morning to KEEP LIVING RIGHTEOUSLY and KEEP BEING OBEDIENT.

We see in verse 1 of Psalm 17 that the Lord heard David’s prayers because his lips were free of deceit.

Lord, hear a just cause; pay attention to my cry; listen to my prayer—from lips free of deceit.

Psalm 17:1 CSB

As I was studying that this morning, the Holy Spirit told me to DO RIGHT with the money He gives me.

He said, pay your bills. There’s more where that came from. A cattle on a thousand hills belongs to me! You are the head and not the tail. You are A LENDER, not a borrower.

YOU ARE A LENDER! YOU ARE A GIVER!

Holy Spirit said I will use you to show what living righteous looks like. They will care about the money, but they will leave with My Word!

Y’all, when Holy Spirit said you are a lender twice, I felt it so strong! Now I got to be transparent with y’all. The Lord has been blessing me with money from all kind of places!! And the old Fon wants to see it sit in the bank. He gave me clear instructions, PAY YOUR BILLS! LOL! See I had been looking for HIM TO PAY THEM in a supernatural way, and He was like…I DID! That money I gave you that you didn’t work for was it! LOL!!

I’m sharing this with y’all because this is how the Holy Spirit and I converse daily. We talk through prayer. He hears me and answers me because my lips are free of deceit.

Let’s look at Psalm 17 again in the New Living Translation:

1 O Lord, hear my plea for justice.
Listen to my cry for help.
Pay attention to my prayer,
for it comes from honest lips.
Declare me innocent,
for you see those who do right.

You have tested my thoughts and examined my heart in the night.
You have scrutinized me and found nothing wrong.
I am determined not to sin in what I say.
I have followed your commands,
which keep me from following cruel and evil people.
My steps have stayed on your path;
I have not wavered from following you.

I am praying to you because I know you will answer, O God.
Bend down and listen as I pray.

Psalm 17:1-6

David said his prayers come from honest lips. He knows that the Lord see who does right. The Lord tested him and found nothing wrong. David said he is determined not to sin. His steps have stayed on the Lord’s path and he has not wavered from following the Lord.

Let us be encouraged to model our prayers after David today. Let us be encouraged to live righteously so that we can find ultimate satisfaction in the presence of God.

SALVATION PRAYER

If you don’t know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior and you’re not a believer, but you have a desire to be, all you have to do is openly confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead (Romans 10:9). When you pray that prayer, you are saved. Get connected with a good, bible-based church in your community, stay connected to other believers, and start having daily conversations through prayer with God every single day. Welcome to your new life with Jesus Christ!!!
