What to Do & What Not to Do

This morning when my 5 a.m. alarm of praise music went off, I tried to stay underneath the comforter, but The Comforter (Holy Spirit) had me to realize in a matter of moments that I would be uncomfortable if I stayed there knowing I had to go (use the restroom). So as I got up and climbed out of the bed, my foot got stuck in the covers! Yes this has happened once or twice before, but this time I thought how hilarious it was for the enemy to even think he could try to stop me from getting to the restroom. But even the enemy knew that on my way to the restroom, I would START THE CONVERSATION with the Lord. HA!

So after prayer time this morning, I decided to read my Bible at my desk with a bit of hot coffee (specifically blueberry flavor). I flipped it open randomly and landed on Proverbs 12. Now there is already one verse specifically highlighted in this chapter of Proverbs and it has to do with me being a wife. I am already a wife in faith because the Lord said I would be married! This time around it would be ALL HIM and not me in the choosing. If you’re not up to speed on why I said “this time around” then grab my book, Permission Slips, off of Amazon! By the way, that book is literally less than $4 right now with a Prime membership!

But anyway, verse 4 was the only verse highlighted. It says:

A wife of noble character is her husband’s crown,
but a wife who causes shame
is like rottenness in his bones. — Proverbs 12:4 CSB

It was the husband’s crown part for me! That’s why I highlighted it!!

Okay so I read this entire chapter, 28 verses, and I discerned the Lord saying to me after I read verse 22: Always pause before you speak and let it be the truth when you do. Lying doesn’t represent me at all.

Now my first thought was: What did I lie about Lord? LOL! I repent immediately! But I thought about what we call little white lies. They slip so easily out of our mouths. Like if I tell someone the price and I want them to think it was a good price, I might say it was about $23, when I know good and well it was more because of cents or tax. LOL! I’m laughing but I am illustrating how subtle the enemy is! That’s how Satan got Eve… on some little technicality stuff. And we know how that worked out.

Here’s what verse 22 says:

Lying lips are detestable to the Lord,
but faithful people are his delight. — Proverbs 12:22 CSB

Anyway, as I read this chapter of Proverbs again, I discerned the Lord saying: Read it all and pull out all of the wisdom from it.

As I read it, I noticed a lot of what to do, and what not to do.

Let’s read Proverbs 12 together!

1Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge,
but one who hates correction is stupid.

One who is good obtains favor from the Lord,
but he condemns a person who schemes.

No one can be made secure by wickedness,
but the root of the righteous is immovable.

A wife of noble character is her husband’s crown,
but a wife who causes shame
is like rottenness in his bones.

The thoughts of the righteous are just,
but guidance from the wicked is deceitful.

The words of the wicked are a deadly ambush,
but the speech of the upright rescues them.

The wicked are overthrown and perish,
but the house of the righteous will stand.

A man is praised for his insight,
but a twisted mind is despised.

Better to be disregarded, yet have a servant,
than to act important but have no food.

10 The righteous cares about his animal’s health,
but even the merciful acts of the wicked are cruel.

11 The one who works his land will have plenty of food,
but whoever chases fantasies lacks sense.

12 The wicked desire what evil people have caught,
but the root of the righteous is productive.

13 By rebellious speech an evil person is trapped,
but a righteous person escapes from trouble.

14 A person will be satisfied with good
by the fruit of his mouth,
and the work of a person’s hands will reward him.

15 A fool’s way is right in his own eyes,
but whoever listens to counsel is wise.

16 A fool’s displeasure is known at once,
but whoever ignores an insult is sensible.

17 Whoever speaks the truth declares what is right,
but a false witness speaks deceit.

18 There is one who speaks rashly,
like a piercing sword;
but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

20 Deceit is in the hearts of those who plot evil,
but those who promote peace have joy.

21 No disaster overcomes the righteous,
but the wicked are full of misery.

22 Lying lips are detestable to the Lord,
but faithful people are his delight.

23 A shrewd person conceals knowledge,
but a foolish heart publicizes stupidity.

24 The diligent hand will rule,
but laziness will lead to forced labor.

25 Anxiety in a person’s heart weighs it down,
but a good word cheers it up.

26 A righteous person is careful in dealing with his neighbor,
but the ways of the wicked lead them astray.

27 A lazy hunter doesn’t roast his game,
but to a diligent person, his wealth is precious.

28 There is life in the path of righteousness,
and in its path there is no death.

— Proverbs 12:1-28 CSB

What did you learn to do and not do while listening? Read through it again and let’s do what Holy Spirit said: Pull out all of the wisdom from it.

P.S. I just love my conversations with the Lord where He shows me how to be wise! Don’t you?
