Wield…Not Yield

Last week, I felt like I was being attacked and tested. The good news is that the Lord didn’t let me fall, but the not-so-good news is that I almost let myself fall. But praise be to God that I didn’t stop praying through it all. Sometimes my prayers were one-words and no words, only tears. But God!

Well today, the conversation with Holy Spirit was one of refinement. It was like the conversation you have after the fight. The dusting off and trying again, conversation. The let’s-make-sure-you’re-better-prepared-next-time, conversation.

I’m telling yall…my conversation this morning was so potent and so refreshing and so good! Woo Wee!

So I am going to give it to yall, like Holy Spirit gave to me and my prayer is that you be strengthened and encouraged like I am!!!

Holy Spirit said:

  • Weaponry

  • Artillery

  • Keep sharpening your sword.

  • No more losing battles.

  • The Bible is your sword…wield it!

  • Wield it!

  • Wield the Word against the enemy!

  • Cut the foolishness!

  • Cut out all the chaos and confusion!

  • Cut the mess!

  • Cut IT out!

  • Yield not to temptation!

  • Wield, not yield!

Yall!! First of all, when I heard Holy Spirit say, cut the foolishness, I thought to myself, CUT THAT FOOL! Yeah, the enemy! Then when Holy Spirit said, Cut the mess, I honestly thought about the word crap. And when I looked it up, it actually doesn’t just mean the vulgar word, it also means non-sense!

I even looked up the word wield. It means to hold and use. Synonyms are: wave, operate, and display.

As I turned in my Bible to Ephesians 6 because I knew the Lord wasn’t talking about no physical weapons (for all my gun-toting gangstas and right-to-carry folks), Holy Spirit was talking about the spiritual weapons that many of us (me included) are not toting or carrying right!

Put on the helmet of salvation. And take the sword of the Holy Spirit. The sword is God’s word. — Ephesians 6:17 NIRV

Embrace the power of salvation’s full deliverance, like a helmet to protect your thoughts from lies. And take the mighty razor-sharp Spirit-sword of the spoken word of God.

Pray passionately in the Spirit, as you constantly intercede with every form of prayer at all times. Pray the blessings of God upon all his believers. — Ephesians 6:17-18 TPT

Pray also for me. Pray that whenever I speak, the right words will be given to me. Then I can be bold as I tell the mystery of the good news. Because of the good news, I am being held by chains as the Lord’s messenger. So pray that I will be bold as I preach the good news. That’s what I should do. — Ephesians 6:19-20 NIRV

In my Tony Evans Study Bible, there is a featured story where Dr. Evans talks about, The Real Enemy (check out the podcast where I read this story). But also Dr. Evans talks about how the Word of God is a sword, but not a long sword, a short sword, like a dagger.

I looked up dagger and it says that a dagger is short. It has 1 sharp point and two sharp edges!! That’s 1-2-3…the Trinity!! SWIPE SWIPE SWIPE!! The dagger is for close combat confrontations. Remember when Satan tried to tempt Jesus and got all up in Jesus personal space in Matthew 4:4? Then Jesus said these three words (or gave these three swipes): IT IS WRITTEN!

Do you have your dagger sharpened? That’s what the Lord was telling me this morning that I need to KEEP SHARPENING MY SWORD (my dagger), which is His Word! We are not fighting against flesh and blood! This is a spiritual war! And remember this too: We are not fighting FOR VICTORY, we are fighting from a position of victory. Christ has already secured the victory for us, and offers it through the armor of God. The victory is ours when we are well-dressed for warfare and prayer.

Dr. Evans said prayer is the divine means for putting on our spiritual armor, which is a reflection of the person and work of Jesus Christ on our behalf.

Now maybe you’re learning: the spirit is willing, but the body is weak. Watch and pray and take care that you are not pulled down during a time of testing. — Matthew 26:41 VOICE

See I was being tested last week and while the Lord fought my battle, He is telling me today that I got to wield and not yield. I got to wield the dagger like he did with Satan!

I’m wielding!!!! Swipe! Swipe! Swipe!

P.S. I just love my Conversations With God! Don’t you?

SALVATION PRAYER

If you don’t know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior and you’re not a believer, but you have a desire to be, all you have to do is openly confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead (Romans 10:9). When you pray that prayer, you are saved. Get connected with a good, bible-based church in your community, stay connected to other believers, and start having daily conversations through prayer with God every single day. Welcome to your new life with Jesus Christ!!!
