Getting to Know God

Y’all know I love relationships right? I mean if you have been rocking with OABG for a little while, then you know I am all things relationships. And you know what? I know that the area relationships is something that I am purposed to write about, speak on, or something because it’s always been a focus.

I love the idea of a loving relationship. The kind where you can just be yourself. I have often lost my identity in past relationships or simply just didn’t be myself for fear of losing the person. I have often played roles in relationships that weren’t beneficial for me in the long run. I have always been giving in relationships and I have always sought the kind of relationship that is loving, honorable, respectful, and fun! Yes FON! I mean FUN (F-U-N)!

Before this month started, I told the Lord that I wanted our relationship to go deeper. Well guess what? It is!!! And it’s just day 3 of the month!

Holy Spirit said to me this morning: Keep getting to know who I AM…who I really AM! Get to know My heart, My character, and My mind.

I immediately thought about a song (and I don’t even know what this song is from…a commercial I believe), but it says: getting to know you, getting to know all about you. LOL! Yeah that’s where my mind went. LOL!

I asked Holy Spirit: How can I get to know you more?

He replied: Spend time with Me. Ask Me anything.

I found this scripture in James 4:8 which says in part: Come near to God, and he will come near to you.

When we spend time with God, we can get to know Him. And the Holy Spirit was telling me that I needed to really get to know who He is: heart, character, and mind.

That’s when I heard Holy Spirit say:

  • LOVE

  • I AM LOVE

  • I AM THE ANSWERS

  • I AM ATTENTIVE TO EVERYTHING THAT CONCERNS YOU

  • I AM COMPASSIONATE

  • I AM HOLY

  • I AM THE TRUTH

  • I AM GOOD

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. — John 14:6 NIV

Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. Here is how God showed his love among us. He sent his one and only Son into the world. He sent him so we could receive life through him. — 1 John 4:8-9 NIRV

God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son. Anyone who believes in him will not die but will have eternal life. — John 3:16 NIRV

Jesus is God’s heart because God’s heart is shown in the life of Jesus. Without Jesus Christ and apart from Jesus Christ, we don’t know and can’t know the heart of God. But thank God for Jesus!! Hallelujah!! He came to declare the truth and the heart of God to us.

As I researched this morning, I learned that the heart of God is the essence of WHO HE IS, WHAT HE DESIRES, HIS WILL, and HIS PURPOSES.

So how can we be ON ASSIGNMENT to really get to know God?

Here’s our assignment:

  1. Read the Bible.

  2. Get to know Jesus.

  3. Spend time in prayer.

P.S. I just love my Conversations With God! Don’t you?

SALVATION PRAYER

If you don’t know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior and you’re not a believer, but you have a desire to be, all you have to do is openly confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead (Romans 10:9). When you pray that prayer, you are saved. Get connected with a good, bible-based church in your community, stay connected to other believers, and start having daily conversations through prayer with God every single day. Welcome to your new life with Jesus Christ!!!
